Celebrating the beauty of imperfection and the uniqueness of life.
My Journey: Creating Joy Through Art
It's never too late to tear through what confines you and emerge holding your dreams.
You have wings. Use them.
Based in the beautiful city of Melbourne, Australia, I'm Michellè Benson a multidisciplinary artist now working exclusively in porcelain ceramics.
After careers in fashion and finance, I returned to my creative roots in 2022 when I discovered porcelain clay. That first touch came on my first day out after ten weeks of illness it gave me my first smile in months.
Porcelain chose me as much as I chose it.
My practice explores the paradoxes of human experience: fragility and strength, concealment and transparency, vulnerability and resilience. Working exclusively with porcelain, I deliberately cut, tear and distort the clay to create exceptionally thin walls that embody this contradiction—appearing fragile yet possessing remarkable strength.
I'm currently working on my first major solo exhibition "Porcelain Dolls and Hidden Codes"
As well as launching Porcelain Noir a limited collection of black porcelain vessels inspired by Art Deco's bold geometry and unapologetic luxury.
I also co-host "Shift Stirrers," a podcast exploring the journey from career to creative vocation, interviewing artists and makers about their transitions and the courage it takes to follow a creative calling.
I call my work "Liveable Art" as it is meant to be touched, held, used, and woven into daily life. You'll find me regularly at Rose Street Artists' Market and other associated markets throughout Melbourne.
I invite you to join me on this journey of exploring the beautiful contradictions that make us authentically human.
